Brown
v. Board of Education
On May 17, 2004, the United
States Commemorated the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education. The
1954 Supreme Court ruling, which ended government sanctioned segregation in
public schools and ultimately dismantled the Jim Crow system, is one of the
most important judicial decisions in American history.
We Pay tribute to the visionaires who championed the cases that led up to
the Brown victory and honor those leaders, who on every level of society, work
to make equal access to educational, economic, social and political opportunities
a reality for all Americans.
The Association
provides seminars, legal education programs, and other activities designed
to aide minority attorneys in their professional development and in developing
skills required to Judges. The
Association
provides legal referral services for private practitioners and also provides
a place where attorneys in the public sectors, such as the Corporation Counsel's
Office, the District Attorney's Office and the Legal Aid Society can network
with private sector attorney's.
In
1983 a group of young African American attorneys, together with a number of
more seasoned practitioners, banded together for the purpose of establishing
a Black Bar Association of Bronx County. Since its inception, the Association
has continued to grow and to expand with the needs of its members and the community
as a whole.
